Past Retreats

Mokule'ia Writers RetreatThe retreat changes slightly from year to year, but we always feature inspiring faculty and welcome island writers for readings. We also invite local experts to give us talks and take us on walks.

In 2016, writing workshops will be cover fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s literature.

In the evenings, we open our doors to the local community for special readings and presentations on Hawaiian culture. These are held either in the Dining Hall (as in the photo, above, of Connie and Puakea Nogelmeier) or in the Chapel, below, with its mural conceived by artist Meleanna Aluli Meyer. (That’s esteemed music historian and musician Aaron Mahi on ‘ukulele.)
