Cost & Registration
We welcome serious writers of any experience level. Because of our size, we tailor workshops to the individual writers in them. One-on-one coaching is also available for those who have questions about particular projects.
How to register
We will post details on the 2018 program by late December 2017. Registration will begin in late January 2018. To tell us about your writing and get on our mailing list, please email us at email@example.com.
Most of our attendees stay at Camp Mokulē‘ia for the duration of the retreat. Some locals commute from home. Some visitors choose to come with family or friends, stay in a vacation rental, and join us just for the workshops and special sessions. There are several packages available, depending on your wants and needs. PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE PRICES MAY CHANGE SLIGHTLY FOR 2018.
Packages for those staying at the camp
The lodge rooms at the camp feature stunning views and are just steps from the beach. Though the accommodations are simple, each room has large picture windows, two twin beds, a bedside table with reading lamp, a writing table, and two chairs. Upstairs rooms have en suite bathrooms; downstairs rooms have one bathroom shared by two private rooms. (See below, options A and B.)
The cabins have three bedrooms (each with bunks) in addition to a bathroom and a small common room. Cabins are steps from the beach and the lodge. We keep the number of people in the cabin to a maximum of six, or two per bedroom. (See below, option C.)
Rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. (That is, the first people who register have the most choice in rooms, and the last to register have little choice.) The large living room in the lodge and a basic kitchen are shared by all retreaters. We also have access to the chapel at the camp, for quiet writing time during the day and public programs in the evening.
A. Rates for writers in lodge (includes a minimum five-day stay, three meals each day, one intensive writing workshop each day, optional afternoon sessions, all camp activities, and evening programs):
- Writer, taking all workshops, in private room: $1,300
- Writer, taking all workshops, sharing room*: $1,100
*If sharing room with spouse or companion, that person pays for Package B, below.
B. Rate for family members or companions in a shared lodge room (includes a minimum five-day stay, three meals each day, all camp activities, evening programs, but no workshops):
- Spouse, family member, or companion sharing room: $700
C. Shared use of cabin (includes a minimum five-day stay, three meals each day, one intensive writing workshop each day, optional afternoon sessions, all camp activities, and evening programs):

D. Day rates for those staying elsewhere (includes lunch each day, one intensive writing workshop each day, other workshops, all camp activities, evening programs):
- Day rate including lunch only: $600
- Day rate including three meals daily: $700
E. Rate for writers who wish to join afternoon sessions only**
- Four afternoon sessions, including lunch: $300
**Limited spaces will be available for those who wish to attend these sessions only.
A, B, C, and D are flat-rate packages based on a five-night stay and access to all activities. We are sorry, but modifications are not possible. A limited number of discounts may be available for island writers, but only on packages C and D.
Full payment in advance is necessary to reserve space. There are only 18 rooms available in the lodge and 6 in cabins, and we expect to sell out. (The first people to register have priority in their choice of rooms and workshops.) Because of camp policies, we cannot refund payments after April 1. If you cancel before then, we will refund all but $100.
Other ways to participate
If you cannot attend the retreat, but support our vision, please consider making a donation to help us provide scholarships to emerging island writers. No amount is too small! Seriously. Write a check made out to “Camp Mokulē‘ia” and send it to Writers Retreat Scholarship Fund, Camp Mokulē‘ia, 68-729 Farrington Hwy., Waialua HI 96791.
